Coldwater Club Opens To-day by Gary Pipher!! (Tell us when your Club Opens!!)

Shuffleboard Clubs are now opening their doors for another season and Coldwater is just one of those many Clubs. The opening day, to-day saw 67 players come out to play and sign up for the summer season. The rates had to be increase this year by $5.00 and are now $25.00 per person to help offset the increase in Arena rent and insurance. The total of the two combined is close to $5,000.00 for the 38 day summer season. Of course the number of members times their $25.00 membership will not cover this cost , so the Club will have to dig into their bank account to cover the shortfall.
This is the first year the Club has been compelled by the Curling Club to take out liability insurance.
DSC_0282I suppose its a sign of the times , but the Insurance Broker says the wavers we are using are not worth the paper they are written on, and who wants to wait and find out after a law suit has been filed. Click on pic to expand.
When we started the Club 7 or 8 years ago the registration fee was $10.00 and a waver was all that was required. My how things change.

Lorraine; the Central District Officers and Directors wish to extend our sincere thanks for your many years of service to the Central District as its District Tournament Director.  CD President Bob Marshman.

Glenn Monroe, former CD President and  currently the FL State Tournament Director, said this on the occasion of Lorraine’s induction into the FSA HOF: “By 1997, Lorraine had been certified as a tournament director and is now the head tournament director for the Central District. Along the way to her service to the state association, Lorraine added ten years of service to the Central District Board, including eight years as its treasurer, in addition to many years of service to her home club, Avon Park.”  Glenn continued: “As I have observed Lorraine Pollock perform her many posts over the past several years, I have seen that she is not only knowledgeable, efficient and accurate, but she is also unfailingly kind, cheerful and cooperative. While I am sure that we can all name individuals who possess the first three qualities, it is very rare indeed to find someone who exhibits all of the qualities. It is the demonstration of all of these traits that make Lorraine Pollock such a valuable member of the Florida Shuffleboard Association.”

Christmas Party

Our “Christmas Party” will be held on Tuesday December 16th.at noon time. As in other years it will be POT LUCK so don’t forget . Marie has the “sign-up sheet”

Also Ray has been kind enough to have an “Open Bar” for us so “Thank you Ray” !!

New post on The Celebration Is Over! The Adventure Begins

Coldwater ON Shuffleboard Club Makes the Switch From Summer to Winter Shuffling!! A More Relaxed Venu! by stanistheman Coldwater Shuffleboard Club started their winter season of shuffleboard today Oct 14 2014 . The games are played every Tue on roll out courts in the auditorium of the municipal arena. The morning games start at 9:00 am and finish at 12:00 noon , and today there were 16 players taking part in the early bird program and the afternoon session of the sleepy heads saw 20 players taking part. Coffee and cookies were served and as can be seen in one of the photos the players sit back and relax before the last round of play and take time to enjoy each others company. The games are very relaxing and being serious is out of the question. This was quite evident when Merve James came hobbeling along using the shuffleboard cues as crutches. Winter Shuffleboard

Today Tues Oct 14th we started are Winter Shuffleboard at the Coldwater Community Centre.

Welcome to the  regulars that started and also to (3) New Members .Our hope is that you enjoyed playing and looking forward to seeing you again next Tues.

Just a friendly reminder that the “Coldwater Village Players” will be performing on Tues Nov 4th and Tues Nov 11th.and that there will be no shuffling during that time.

Just a friendly reminder that Thursday Sept 18th.will be are wrap up day for the summer season.

Larry Lalonde (ELM) catering will be supply our delicious meal. at 5:00 p.m. or shortly after.

Well Done Stan and Lois

McCormack’s Contribution and extend our Thanks!by stanistheman

When two people become involved in National and International Shuffleboard such as Stan and Lois are , we all just take it for granted the many many things they both do for Shuffleboard.
This Midland 33rd International Championship was just another fine example of your work in promoting the “game” and supporting each and everyone on the tournament planning committee, but it does not end there:  They both promote Canada at every opportunity and it is quite evident that they both are very proud Canadians.  Their many trips to International locations representing Canada and promoting Shuffleboard is unmatched in the history of Canadian Shuffleboard.
We have become reliant on their experience/ knowledge and for the many accurate files, records and history you have on Shuffleboard.
I don’t believe there is another individual who’s name is more synonymous with National and International Shuffleboard than “Stanistheman”.
Stan spend more hours  posting results and stories about the players and happenings on the courts than most of us are awake.
His pursuit of detail is unmatched and his records have been quoted by many as ” legendary”.  When both husband and wife are as committed to Shuffleboard as Stan and Lois are;  it becomes a 24, 7 involvement in the McCormack household.  The many jobs Lois has done for Shuffleboard over the years is for the most part gone unnoticed.
The programs and all the items Lois made for this tournament was just another example of that.   The recognition she received by her induction into the ISA Hall of Fame is just a small token of appreciation by the entire Shuffleboard Community for her dedication and hard work over her many years of involvement .   It was so eloquently put in Lois’s acceptance speech how proud she is  of her family and especially  the McCormack grandchildren;  and oh how proud they are of their grandmother.
We the members of the Shuffleboard Tournament Planning Committee , the CNSA, and on behalf of all the visitors and participants of the 33rd  World Shuffleboard Championship,  want to thank you both for all you do for this game of Shuffleboard.

Great Job Gary

Gary Pipher – Event Organizer – 33^rd ISA Midland, OCT 2014. The decision to hold the 33^rd ISA in Midland took place on August 7^th 2012 in Seattle during the ISA Board Meeting when Canada’s President, Myrna Bilton, advised that Gary Pipher had made tentative arrangements to reserve the North Simcoe Recreation Centre in Midland, Ontario.

The ISA Board accepted Canada’s invitation and Gary’s work began! An Organization Committee was struck and Gary called several meetings over the two year period between acceptance and implementation. Gary chaired each meeting and it was evident that he had given each a good deal of attention prior to the meeting. We did not just meet and issue minutes; Gary followed each critical item to ensure we were on track. As an example, I just looked at the Sep. 2013 Minutes and confirm that Gary also accepted responsibility for many tasks such as preparing and laying the courts; preparing the discs, including reworking AND ensuring volunteers are available to maintain the courts throughout the event!! AS indicated, that was but one example. Gary worked closely with Recreation Staff to ensure adequate arrangements: e.g. sound system; lighting; dinner decorations and was also our contact with ELM Catering who delivered our lunches and banquets. Gary constructed the Score Boards used during the Tournament. Local Bus Transportation, Hotel to Rec Centre, Gary again. Gary contacted each of the Special Invited Guests for our Opening and ensured they were also invited to our Friday Awards Banquet. We had good media coverage; you guessed it; it was Gary who arranged for both TV and press! Mike Dodd of the Mirror said this: “Hey Gary: Thanks for the interviews and follow-up e-mails. I know you were up to your armpits in details and still found time to talk to The Mirror, so we could do the proper coverage. Mike”. 

Mike had it right: Gary was up to his armpits but he never let it show. He always had the necessary time to ensure each of the “tasks” was unfolding as planned, and if there was a snag, he dealt with it expeditiously!! There was a direct relationship between the success of the 33^rd ISA and Gary Pipher. Finally, immediately following the 33^rd, Gary ensured that all who assisted, all who responded to the many invitations, were thanked appropriately.

Midland Shuffleboard Club

The International tournament in Midland was more than an International 
Tournament for both the Coldwater and Midland Shuffleboard Clubs.

While in Midland I was able to meet many of the Midland shuffleboard players and while I had the opportunity I extended an invitation to have them visit the Coldwater Shuffleboard Club . Today Tue Aug 19 we had our first visit from the Midland Shuffleboard Club President David Herring and 1st VP Peter McCloud.
After 3 great games and an invitation to join in the apre shuffle coffee and
cake, Coldwater President George O’Reilly discussed  with Herring, different
ways to bring the two clubs closer together by having games between the two clubs on a regular basis.
Having the Midland SBC President in Coldwater also made him aware of  other opportunities for his Midland players such as the Ontario Shuffleboard
Tournaments as well as the CNSA tournaments which are held throughout the summer months. Many of the Midland players would like to take part these events, but like so many others around Ontario ; the are not aware of the tournaments available to them.  Many seniors do not have or operate
computers and they miss out on all the postings and information regarding
shuffleboard as a result.
David went back to Midland a winner, both in his game as well as the share 
the wealth draw.
Coldwater Club extends a welcome to all shuffleboard players to drop by and have a game.  The club is open @ 12:30 on Tue and Thur. Games start at 13:00 hrs. and are usually over by 15:30
